Labour Bureau is an apex organization for providing data base at the national level for policy formulation, evaluation and research in the field of labour. On the recommendations of the Estimates Committee of the Lok Sabha in its 88th Report, a small cell was set up in the Labour Bureau in June, 1963 with a view to undertake research on selected problems. Two ad-hoc publications are being brought out by this cell.

ii) Digest of Indian Labour Research
The primary objective of bringing out Statistical Profile on Women Labour is to provide comprehensive and recent most statistics on important aspects of Women Labour in India at one place and also to study the gender variations in the population, employment, employment services and trainings, wages/earnings, participation in trade union movement, social security. The 10th edition of this publication (2012-2013) has been uploaded to the bureau website.
The digest of Indian Labour Research is brought out with the main objective of making available the annotated bibliography relating to research work done in India in the field of labour during a specified time. Its Tenth edition covering the period 2008-2011 has been released in June, 2014. Studies under Eleventh Digest are under examination.
The data for this publication is collected from different sources and publications having salient socio-economic characteristics on women labour viz: DGE&T, ESIC, RGI, different section of Labour Bureau and various Ministries.
The Digest attempts to present an annotated bibliography of the research studies conducted in the field of Labour in various Universities, Central and State Government Organizations, Research Institutes and individual researchers.
Statistical Profile on Women Labour was evolved on account of necessity felt by the Social Institutes, Policy Planners and Researchers to have a complete and up-to-date statistics on important aspects of women labour, both in the organized as well as unorganized sectors in India.The Digest has been found to be extremely useful for reference purposes by various Universities/Institutions/Scholars etc., engaged in the field of Labour and Labour related research as the relevant information in brief has been made available at a single source.
